Fishing Communications

The offshore fishing industry operates under some of the strictest global regulations. Fishing companies need to ensure their compliance with these regulations via communications solutions that can track, and thus prove, their operations in approved waters. The NSSLGlobal vessel-monitoring system (VMS) is a satellite-based monitoring system which ensures the electronic recording and reporting system (ERS) regulation cooperation.

The ERS is required by the EU system for fisheries control and is used to record, report, process, store and send fisheries data (catch, landing, sales, and transshipment). The key element to this control is the electronic logbook where the master of a fishing vessel keeps a record of fishing operations. This record is then sent to the national authorities, which store the information in a secure database. The data are managed by the individual Member States’ Fisheries Monitoring Centres (FMCs).
