NSSLGlobal helps Thorco Shipping to achieve a new level in maritime communications

Five VSAT IP@SEA communications systems help Thorco modernise its new
Dutch fleet and deliver “always on” Internet access for its crew

Surrey, September 2015NSSLGlobal has today announced a deal with Thorco Shipping that will see its renowned Ku-band VSAT IP@SEA service rolled-out across five vessels, starting with the general cargo vessel “MV Aline”, as part of Thorco’s newly established Dutch venture Thorco Shipping Holland BV. NSSLGlobal’s VSAT IP@SEA customisable services will help Thorco to build and maintain operational connectivity as well as providing limitless, always available telephony and Internet access for crew, in compliance with the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC-2006) crew welfare requirements.

“High quality broadband connectivity is essential for today’s maritime communications, but with ever-increasing data consumption volumes it can be an expensive overhead,” said Warner Warnders, Fleet Manager, Thorco Shipping Holland. “NSSLGlobal’s fixed priced monthly fee, VSAT IP@SEA package gives us peace of mind compared to traditional ‘pay-as-you-go’ models. And thanks to some of the fastest download and upload speeds available our vessels can now achieve a new operating level, whilst also keeping crew happy, motivated and productive.”

“Thorco Shipping is an ambitious and innovative operator and as such aspires to be at the leading edge of maritime communications and crew welfare,” said Henrik Christensen, Global Maritime Sales Director at NSSLGlobal. “VSAT IP@SEA will give Thorco vessels the greater flexibility, stability and availability of communication services to realise this goal and will help future proof against rising data volumes.”

NSSLGlobal was selected due to a combination of the price and quality they could offer. Since the installation Thorco’s crews have offered very positive feedback of NSSLGlobal’s VSAT systems, indicating that it is now easier for them to communicate in respect to data transfer (pictures, videos, etc). As a result Thorco now intends to install a VSAT system on board all of its vessels.

NSSLGlobal’s IP@SEA service is a maritime broadband VSAT (DVBS2-RCS2) service for commercial vessels, which offers the most extensive Ku-Band and C-Band coverage in the industry. The service comprises seven teleports supporting 25 beams through 16 satellites to achieve ‘always-on’ connectivity with speeds of up to 40 Mbits. NSSLGlobal’s experience, technical knowledge and VSAT product availability means it can provide a “one stop shop” for any company looking for the best service in the market. As well as VSAT options NSSLGlobal also has a range of products and services for ship management companies with lower bandwidth requirements, including FleetBroadband, Fleet One and Iridium maritime systems.
