MTM Ship Management extends its commitment to NSSLGlobal VSAT

VSAT contract expansion with managed crew service enhances long-standing relationship

MTM Ship Management Pte Ltd (MTMSM), an international ship management company specialising in product and chemical tankers, Bulk Carriers, Container has expanded its relationship with satellite communications provider NSSLGlobal by increasing the use of its award-winning VSAT IP@SEA service.  The enhanced relationship sees 21 existing vessels re-contracted for the next five years and will also see at least 20 new vessels being equipped with NSSLGlobal’s maritime VSAT over the coming months.

MTMSM has been an NSSLGlobal customer for over 10 years, recently moving to the VSAT service in 2013. Having experienced the performance of NSSLGlobal’s fully owned and operated network and its value added services MTMSM recognised NSSLGlobal’s value as a “one stop shop” for all its satellite communications needs.

Within the new VSAT package MTMSM also benefits from NSSLGlobal’s Cruise Control suite of services, including an email solution with highly efficient over the air compression, web filtering and application control and the recently launched Crew Unite module. This flexible module is applied to the crew LAN to create an onboard portal where crew bandwidth is fairly managed by the use of crew ‘vouchers’ to access the internet. Cruise Control Unite provides MTMSM with a way to ensure that personal crew connectivity does not unduly eat into bandwidth or data allowance reserved for commercial and operational tasks. It also removes the need for senior staff to spend time managing such issues.

Priya Patel, APAC Regional Sales Director, NSSLGlobal said: “The contract extension with MTMSM is great momentum for us in the maritime sector hot on the heels of our recent Teekay and MOL LNG wins. MTMSM has been a valued customer for more than 10 years thanks to a relationship founded on going the extra mile, being customer-centric and developing solutions tailored to MTMSM’s evolving needs. Over the last few years as we’ve grown our sales and service offices to better support customers in Maritime Hubs globally, our team in Singapore has played a key role in enhancing our relationship at a local level and identifying opportunities where we can add value.”

Ajay Singh, Sr. Manager IT, MTMSM said: “NSSLGlobal is a longstanding communications partner to MTMSM. Our positive experience with VSAT IP@SEA over the last three years made it an easy decision to extend our contract and double the number of vessels where the NSSLGlobal solution is deployed. We’re also pleased to be able to roll out Cruise Control Unite across our fleet. The successful pilot trial we’ve done has shown the value we will get from better managing network access, both in terms of our crews’ experience and satisfaction, and the smooth running of the network.”

NSSLGlobal’s VSAT IP@SEA service is a maritime broadband VSAT (DVBS2-RCS2) service for commercial vessels, which combines an extensive Ku- and C-Band coverage with some of the fastest speeds in the industry. Being an independent VSAT operator ensures that NSSLGlobal can offer flexible and tailored solutions around its customers. The service comprises six global teleports supporting 23 satellite beams and three Network Operation Centres to achieve ‘always-on’ connectivity.

Along with this wholly owned VSAT network NSSLGlobal also brings together best-in-class satellite solutions from key satellite operators such as Inmarsat, Thuraya and Iridium, to offer options across C-, L-, Ka- and Ku-Band networks.
